Our stories
volunteering with the Refugee Community Kitchen, Calais
We recently spent five weeks at the Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) in Calais, an organisation which prepares and distributes hot food to people on the move in and around Calais.
And we’re off!
First stop, Calais. We left the UK on a drizzly Monday at the start of February 2025, thinking ‘thank God we are off to sunshine and beaches’ before reminding ourselves it will be nearly a year before South East Asia…
Packing our bags
Packing for such a long trip and so many climates has proved very challenging - particularly as we both tend to err on the side of overpacking.
The Big idea
We’ve been talking about this trip for ever, or that’s how it feels. Dora and I following in our mum’s footsteps after growing up hearing of countless adventures from her and her sister’s travels around the World. From Australia and back to the UK, almost all on buses, boats and trains. What an adventure.
Planning our trip
Martha and I have been discussing the idea of travelling by land and sea to Australia for years, but it's finally becoming a reality. We now have our departure set for the start of February 2025, and we're getting so excited (and a bit nervous!).
